Empowering Children Through Sports — Indoor Skydiving

On 15 November, we joined FlowNation and the Right to Play Foundation in an inspiring and exciting event. The foundation focuses on the transformative power of play, such as through sports and games, to educate and empower children facing adversity. For this event, we invited children in  foster care to be introduced and inspired through a very unique sport: indoor skydiving. FlowNation, a new indoor skydiving service for Thailand, hosted the event in Lopburi, alongside Right to Play, Mercedes Benz, Siam Seaplane, AXA Insurance, the Royal Aeronautic Sports Association of Thailand (RASAT), and the Royal Thai Army.

The children got a chance to try the wind tunnel and experience indoor skydiving for the first time. We were fortunate to have Amy Watson there, a young Thai-Australian and the Junior World Champion for indoor skydiving! She inspired everybody by showing how she can fly, and helped coaching. Everyone was excited to try and to experience flying.

In addition to this experience, Siam Seaplane brought a model remote-control seaplane and a drone. Together with RASAT we also brought the famous Miss Siam model, an OX-5 Travel Air 2000, the first private aircraft in Thailand! Lastly, a magic show by ‘Dr. Penguin’ brought smiles and laughter on all participants’ faces and rounded off an eventful day.

All children received special gifts from FlowNation and Siam Seaplane to bring back with them. A thank you also to Mercedes Benz Thailand, who provided transportation support, and AXA insurance for travel insurance.

At Siam Seaplane we aim to build long-term business, looking to improve transportation across Thailand, and putting a strong emphasis on sustainability and support for the wider economy. This not only relates to the environment, while ensuring that seaplanes do not harm our fragile ecosystems on the water and around us, but also extends to general corporate social responsibility. This event has been a great example of how, in small ways, we can help to empower children.

Lastly, we believe in strong partnerships. Starting next year, FlowNation will offer indoor skydiving in Thailand, complementary experiences that are very much in the spirit of Siam Seaplane: unique, special and once-in-a-lifetime memories that can be repeated. We are glad to have partners like FlowNation and to help promote these services through our Experiences by Siam Seaplane.

The Power Plant of the Cessna Grand Caravan Amphibian EX — The PT6 Engine

Many kinds of engines are designed to be used for various purposes in aviation. Unlike other aircraft, the Cessna Grand Caravan Ex amphibian is using the very powerful turboprop Pratt & Whitney engine.

The Pratt & Whitney PT6 turboprop engine is famous for its unique characteristics which were designed with split-shaft or free turbine and reverse flow. This leads to lower irritating noise being produced and shorter general engine size.

Split-shaft is one type of turbo propeller engine, where the shaft connected to the compressor to compress the air used for the combustion is disconnected to the shaft rotating the propeller. This gives many advantages such as a smaller size of battery required for engine start and the propeller can be feathered (stop to rotate) without having to stop the engine. With the shaft connected to the propeller, it also gives more room to play with the rotation speed (rpm) of the propeller as it’s never going to rotate at the same speed as the turbine itself, with the gearbox taking that role.

This Month’s Dream Destination — Ao Nang, Krabi

A small town of Krabi, again at the southern part of Thailand, it is the home of wonderful experiences consisting of a relaxed atmosphere, beautiful resorts and the friendliness of locals, the charming “Ao Nang” is just 17km away from Krabi.

“Ao” is the Thai word for bay, and “Nang” is the name of this bay. It is famous for its long 2 km Andaman coast beachfront. It is also a location for divers. At this beach, it is a place where you can take your boat to the rest of the islands right at the middle of the beach. You can expect to spend luxury nights here as there are many high-end hotels and resorts in the area offering excellent services for visitors.

From sunrise to sunset, a warm beach lets you lay down and sunbath, then swim in its shimmering sea...
