Happy Songkran 2026

Happy Songkran! Discover Thailand’s Most Refreshing Festival from the Sky

Thailand’s most joyful and refreshing celebration is here bringing together tradition, travel, and a splash of fun across the country.

Songkran marks the traditional Thai New Year, celebrated every April. Rooted in cultural heritage, it is a time for family reunions, temple visits, and paying respect to elders. Over the years, Songkran has also become world-famous for its lively water festivities turning streets into joyful arenas of water fights.

Beyond the fun, water symbolizes cleansing, renewal, and a fresh start for the year ahead. And in Thailand’s summer heat, there’s no better way to cool down.

Celebrate Songkran from a New Perspective

This year, skip the long drives and crowded routes. Fly seamlessly into your destination and step straight into the celebration. Whether you’re seeking vibrant beach parties, cultural traditions, or a quick refreshing getaway, each destination offers a different side of Songkran.

From above, you’ll witness Thailand’s beauty like never before. On the ground, you’ll feel the energy of one of the world’s most beloved festivals.

Top Songkran Destinations & Dates

Hua Hin (12-14 April)

Thailand’s normally tranquil beach town comes alive from April 12 to 14 during the Songkran celebrations. The main festivities are centered around Phon King Phet Park and Queen’s Park, where both locals and visitors gather to enjoy the lively atmosphere. This year, the event also introduces a hologram water festival at Phon King Phet Park, adding a modern and immersive twist to the traditional celebrations.

Pattaya (5-20 April)

One of the longest celebrations in Thailand, offering nonstop water fun by the sea. While most of Thailand celebrates Songkran over three days, Chonburi keeps the festive spirit going with a series of “Wan Lai” events held in different districts throughout April. These local celebrations give both residents and visitors more opportunities to take part in traditional water festivities.

The highlight is Pattaya’s Wan Lai on April 19, when Beach Road and nearby areas transform into a large-scale celebration filled with water fights, parades, live music, and cultural activities. Crowds from across Thailand and around the world gather along the beachfront to join in the festivities, where splashing water symbolizes cleansing, renewal, and good fortune for the Thai New Year.

Phuket (13-15 April)

A lively island celebration with international energy and beachside excitement.

Songkran in Phuket, held from April 13 to 15, 2026, brings together a dynamic mix of festive energy, beachside fun, and cultural traditions. The island comes alive with large-scale water fights, especially along Bangla Walking Street, alongside more traditional rituals such as water-pouring ceremonies in Phuket Old Town. Popular hotspots like Patong, Kata, and Kata Beach offer a blend of lively celebrations and scenic coastal atmosphere.

Chiang Mai (12–16 April)

Chiang Mai stands out as one of the most iconic destinations for Songkran, where deep-rooted traditions meet vibrant, city-wide celebrations. Each April, Northern Thailand’s cultural capital comes alive with a dynamic mix of Lanna heritage and festive street energy. At the center of it all is the Old City moat, where the celebration reaches full intensity. Expect nonstop water fights, pickup trucks loaded with ice-cold barrels, and an atmosphere that is lively, chaotic, and completely unforgettable.

While the official dates fall on April 13 to 15, 2026, celebrations in Chiang Mai often begin around the 12th and continue through the 16th. Highlights include the grand Phra Phuttha Sihing procession on April 13, traditional sand pagoda building on April 14, and merit-making rituals on April 15. For those seeking action, the Old City moat becomes the ultimate playground, with nonstop water fights and an electric atmosphere throughout the city.

Ayutthaya (13-15 April)

The UNESCO World Heritage city of Ayutthaya comes alive during Songkran, where history and celebration blend into a uniquely cultural experience. From April 13 to 15, 2026, the Maha Songkran Krung Kao festival along Naresuan Road features traditional water-pouring rituals, floral floats, and the iconic elephant water play, often described as part of the “world’s biggest water fight.” Beyond the festivities, visitors can enjoy Buddha bathing, community parades, and live entertainment across the city.

For a different perspective, take to the skies with Ayutthaya scenic tours and experience the historic landscape from above.

Imagine landing just moments away from the country’s most exciting water festivals, ready to join the fun instantly.
